Rider Comments

February on the Great Katy Prairie can be cold and damp or mild and pleasant. Regardless of the weather, Pedaling the Prairie offers gentle elevation changes and wide-open spaces.  Here are a few comments from our riders.

2012 Ride Comments

  • Thank you for sponsoring the ride.  I enjoyed the great preparation surrounding the event and could tell a lot of effort went into planning it.  I wanted to give a HUGE thanks to those students who came out to support. At one rest stop I asked for some gum and although it wasn't provided as an item for snack, one of the students offered her personal package as I walked away. Thanks for taking the time to care about the riders.  ~~ Lisa

  • I just wanted to thank you and all of the organizers for putting the event together. It was my first 'official' bike ride and the start of a love for those kinds of events. I had such an amazing time and every single person I encountered was just a delight to talk to. The people at the rest stops couldn't have been lovelier.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I signed up for the MS150 but it is better than I could have ever hoped for and I am SO glad that I did it because it has brought so many smiles and great memories to my life. I have signed up to many more of the training rides as a result of completing Pedaling the Prairie.
Thank you once again and I hope to see you all again next year!  Kind regards. ~~ Stephanie
  • You all did an awesome job! Your students are to be commended. ~~ Tammye

  • Great ride.!!  Well marked, supported, and no shortage of friendly volunteers.
  • What a fantastic ride!  Down to every detail of when your kids held my bike during a rest stop...top notch event! Food, Course, Aide, SAG, Burgers!  Thanks for all the hard work!  I will be back next year. ~~ James
  • I arrived at the fairgrounds and it was about 37 degrees (wind chill was about 27 degrees) and everything was wet. I thought it was going to be a miserable day and an even more miserable ride. I had signed up to ride 45 miles, and the farthest I had ever ridden before was 35 miles in the hills of Coldspring, Texas. This looked like it would be harder to accomplish than hill after hill on the Coldspring ride.  As soon as the ride started, the excitement began. There were a lot of riders and everyone cooperated very well and put the rubber to the road! There was more support on this ride than any of the ones I have done and I felt safe. The break points were well covered with volunteers and the snacks were the bomb! Anytime you have peanut butter sandwiches, bananas and pickle pops to keep you going, you know it'll be a good ride! I didn't have a breakfast taco that morning, because the traffic getting onto the fairgrounds was a bit more than I expected and I had to pick up my packet before the ride, but with everything available at the break points, that was just fine, and I didn't need a burger afterward either. I was still full from the snacks! I saw SAG vehicle after SAG vehicle during the ride, and although I didn't need one for the 55 miles I ended up riding, I always knew there was one on the way just in case. Thanks to everyone involved in putting this ride together and in supporting it. Kudos, and see you next year! ~~ Kelly

  • Just so you know.....you all put on quite a bike ride!!!  Friendly and enthusiastic volunteers, lots and lots of goodies at the rest stops, and a well marked route!  I wish we would have had a little sunshine to warm things up some...but other than that the ride was perfect!  Thanks for all of your hard work and I look forward to riding again next year.  ~~ Rhonda

  • It was my first time out on this ride... It was wonderful and well planned out (better than a lot of much bigger rides).  It was a cold 70 miles, but enjoyable.  Thank you. ~~Bruce

  • Overall, it was an excellent ride;  the burgers at the end were very good and especially the coffee;  I’ve never seen coffee on a training ride but it was a great idea during these cold days. Thanks again for all of your efforts. ~~Charles

  • Thank you for everything. Was a great ride. And what a beautiful ride in the country. :o) Loved seeing all the horses. The signage was EXCELLENT - never wondered where I was going. And good police support. Oh and lots of visible SAG. My 3rd ride this year and best organized so far. Look forward to riding with ya'll next year. ~~ Lori

  • I thought the ride was fantastic... It was one of the better supported rides as far as SAG vehicle visibility, energetic volunteers at the rest stops, great snacks, etc. I did the 70 mile route and thought the signage was very well placed, and was impressed that there were volunteers at some of the turns to make sure they weren't missed. I will definitely be riding this one again in the future! Thanks for organizing such a great time! ~~Shawna

  • We wanted to thank you and your crew of volunteers for the incredible work you did. We were treated very well, deluxe, in fact. Everything ran smoothly; the signals were superb, the "cheering squads" at the rest stops were very encouraging; all in all, a wonderful operation. Our pleasure. I forgot to mention SAG and police support. They were incredible, too, coming by very often. Please relay our message to everyone. We love you! Thanks! ~~H

  • Really enjoyed the ride. It was great to get some hill training for the MS 150. There was such an abundance of great snacks at all the rest stops and the finish. All the volunteers were very cheerful and enthusiastic. Thanks. ~~ Paul

  • If you don't mind passing along the word,  wanted to take a moment to let the ride organizers know what a wonderful experience this ride was! It was very well supported - frankly I don't remember when I saw such frequent SAG vehicle sweeps; the breakpoint volunteers were cheerful and friendly, and each and every significant turn was manned. I did 71 miles, fixed some flats for folks, and had an awesome time. I'll surely plan to volunteer next year as well! Regards, ~~ Surya

  • I want to thank you for putting on such a good event. This was my first time riding this event and I throughly enjoyed it. See you all next year! ~~ J. Arroyo
